All the Ways to Visit Valpo | Valparaiso University

As the Valparaiso University marketing manager, I interview students weekly. I’m interested in finding out about their higher education experience, what they plan to do after graduating, and what made them ultimately choose Valpo. One thing that stays consistent when I interview students is that visiting Valparaiso University’s campus sealed the deal for them. Whether Valpo was at the top of their list or was just a nearby university to visit, it was clear that stepping foot on the Valpo campus would act as the catalyst for their higher education decision. I have been told by students of every college, from freshmen to seniors, that the “feel” of Valpo sets us apart. Seeing their peers swing in the hammock village, sitting in on a lecture or two, and walking around the many different buildings that dot campus proved to these visiting students that Valpo was the place where they would not only succeed but truly make a difference.

Our numbers speak for themselves here at Valpo, and we have hundreds of websites, articles, and social media posts dedicated to our academic and athletic excellence. But something that proves to be challenging to put into words is how you’ll feel once you’re actually here. There’s nothing quite like chatting with our award-winning faculty and current students or taking guided campus tours to really get to know Valpo. We offer several options for our prospective students to do just that.

If you’re interested in visiting Valpo, register for an on-campus tour! Tours are open to all high school students and transfer students. You’ll be treated to a beautiful campus tour , be able to set up additional appointments to get questions to your answers, and have the opportunity to meet with a professor or an advisor in your desired area of study.

If you happen to be in the Region, but didn’t register for a tour, that’s okay! Call the admission office at 219.464.5011 to ask if they are available to host you for a campus tour that day. Or, if your visit plans fall outside of our open hours, there are self-guided tour maps just outside the main doors of the Duesenberg Welcome Center. Feel free to follow up with any questions by emailing, or by visiting for more.

Does the idea of living in a residence hall make you nervous about going away to college? You’re in luck! We offer overnight visit options to stay with an overnight host in one of our residence halls. These visits are open to all admitted students and this is one of the top ways the students I have interviewed fell in love with Valpo! Overnight visits are reserved for admitted students, so don’t forget to fill out and complete your free application first. Head to or send over your Common App. This is definitely one of the best ways to get a taste of Valpo as an actual student!

Valpo Preview Days are perfect for someone just beginning their college search especially if you want to figure out which type of school will fit your needs. Visitors will get a general overview of the University, academics, student life, and the application and financial aid processes. Registration will open soon for the upcoming Preview Days on October 22 and November 12. Take this first step with us to begin your college search on the right foot!

With high gas prices and the current risks of travel, we understand that getting to campus may be difficult. That’s why we offer virtual options like a virtual tour, one-on-one chats, and videos covering the most important aspects of life at Valpo.

From the page, click on The Virtual Valpo Experience to start your tour. You’ll have the option to enter your contact information, but you can always click No Thanks to skip it. The interactive map will pop up, showing you a view of the Valpo campus and all it has to offer. Yellow pin icons mark all the areas where you can find more information; a yellow arrow icon will share more information about the City of Valpo’s sprawling and lively downtown area. Spend some time getting to know campus with a bird’s eye view and get a glimpse into what it feels like to call Valpo home.

After your virtual tour, schedule a one-on-one chat with an admission counselor to get answers to any questions you may have. 20-minute Zoom chat appointments are available with counselors by location or by counselor. You can also shoot your counselors a text if you have quick questions that may not require a full 20-minute call. Find your counselor’s number on their Meet Your Counselor page!

Our YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and website are chock full of campus videos, student testimonials, and faculty interviews to give you an in-depth look at the Valpo experience. These are great options if you’re interested in a specific department or organization here on campus. We are constantly uploading new videos, so give our social media channels a follow!
